Great game!

I have to say the graphics are top notch for a flash game on newgrounds! The music is also pretty nice even though it's not my favorite. It had nice simplistic easy to learn controls which lets you go right into the action without needing to memorize a thousand things before playing. Amusing storyline too! Overall a fun game to play!

But, there are a few cons. It got repetitive pretty fast because you are limited to mashing a single button to attack without any combos. Also, all the enemies have similar (though not quite) the same kind of attacks. Can't really blame you there though because it would be hard to come up with very unique attacks. Maybe make a few moves flashier?

Strategies and tips for players:

Some general strategies for the game:
All you needed to do is take out the ranged attackers first or stay out of their line of sight as you beat up the close ranged units. If any monster is trying to creep up on you, move away up or down away. This way you don't become a punching bag for them. If you get hit, don't try hitting back! Always take the defensive and move away!

Boss tips:
For all the bosses, the strategy is to get within their reach, and attack them before/during/after their long winded attacks. For the zombie, after every attack he makes, he will need to rest so pound him at that time. For the alien, just attack him from behind when he's trying to stab you. Just watch out, when he lifts his spear into a horizontal position he will hit all around him, RUN AWAY ASAP (run horizontally because you run faster that way)! The robot has to be the easiest. It's laser takes time to charge, it's knife attack is lame because you just need to move up a little until he's done and then attack him. Just don't attack his babies. I'm warning you.

Overall a fun beat 'em up. But like all beat 'em ups, it does get fairly repetitive. 9/10 5/5

Rather repetative

But it looked nice. Random enemy spawns and a few bosses at the end of some levels makes a really boring game. But I admit it's graphics are decent. It wasn't challenging at all, just spam a few skills and you beat anything.

To improve, you could add a stat system every level up. For example you have strength for more damage, intellegence for more energy etc. Plus, the skill system was rather unbalanced where you had to put 5 points in the health regeneration to get to the next tier.

I also unlocked the secret character with the code axis. But I'm not sure if you have to beat the game to unlock him.

Overall a decent game. 7/10

My interpretation

I think that you feel that the riot going on is for the wrong cause. So, you try influence them to join the other side. At first, it only takes a few words to make them go "Oh no! I'm on the wrong side". Then, when you convert all of them to your color, YOU say "Oh no!" and go on the other side. Now, it takes you longer to convince them but, you convince fewer people than before to join your cause. It goes back and forth until finally you are in the middle and have no cause. You can't convince anyone because you have nothing to convince them of. You are then overwhelmed by a sea of white and black people.

From what I can gather, maybe this has something to do with mob psychology? You need to convince more people with less conviction to turn the mob, and only need to convince a few people yet with strong beliefs to turn a mob around. Then, if you have no belief or conviction, you can't make anyone change their mind.

Another way of looking at it is you play a person who can't make up their mind. You join one side, then another, until eventually, people don't want to listen to what you have to say like the boy who cried wolf.

This situation is not black and white. It's very much in the gray area. 10/10

Pretty tough

Well, at least the first time around. By the second time, you knew all the boss attack and movement patterns and it's far easier. It took me two times to get all the medals, and it got really boring the second time. You fight the same things over and over exactly the same as the first time.

The animation has a very unique style to it, and I kind of liked it, yet felt it's a little too warped for me. The music was pretty fitting for the game. For the character movement though, you tend to slide way too much and it's hard to control. Also, you only really needed to mash the S button through the whole game. Just saying only one attack button was really needed and the combos were not worth the effort to use.

Ok, here are some bugs. I found that when I was near full health, and was hit by the final boss, I was instantly brought down to no health. Now, this only happened once, but I was very annoyed. Also, when you fall through the floor, I actually fell through the SECOND floor. Now, this may have been because I had moved when falling. So I had to fight the last boss by jumping under him and holding A.

But, what kind of a game is perfect? I still think overall it deserves a 5/5 and 10/10.

ItsTheAshtray responds:

Ah, yeah. That health problem came up once or twice on me too. I've been trying to figure that one out. As for the floor issue, that's big news to me and I'm looking into it right now. Thanks for the notifications :)

Interesting and fairly unique game

It's a pretty fun game once you get used to it.

Very nice game guide:
The strategy I used in the game was buff my sentry guns and base damage first while using the cresent gun. I kept 2 setry guns on the field at all times at first. More would be too costly, less and your base would take too much damage and suck resources into repairing it. Eventually I maxed sentry and base damage, and moved on to upgrading my cresent modifier. After I maxed this, I noticed I needed more sentry guns. Add more as needed. VERY IMPORTANT! Sentry guns are best to be placed at the same time to decrease costs! Or else you'll be paying 450 times 3 to replace sentry guns instead of it averaging out to 300 times 3! This strategy saves so many resources, I pretty much maxed out everything on the last level. Good luck.

The thing is, it's not obious enough that your damage is based off of your BASE DAMAGE X GUN MODIFIER (I'm assuming this is correct). So, if you were only upgrading the cresent gun up to max, it would be 20 X 1.9 = 38 damage. You max base damage, 47 X 1 = 47 damage. Max both and you're doing very near to 100 damage, times 3 if you get really close, making it the most powerful gun in the game if used properly! The thing here would be to balance cost and boost to damage.

The controls were ok, but I feel that your ship was a little too out of control in its movements, causing it to be a pain to manuver well.

The sentry guns were a great idea. Maybe you could change the different weapons it could use, like idfferent sentry guns. And instead of them getting upgraded with a single upgrade in the store, make it more on an individual basis on the shop screen.

I will give it 9 stars and 5/5. A video game is like an essay. It is never perfect, yet can always be improved upon. I really hope to see a new game from you soon.

AtelierLucid responds:

Hey, you figured out the basic strategy :D
Yep the crescent do 3 times damage, and 3 times more critical hit than the other gun (critical is counted in each bullet).

And good strategy at the sentry. I tried that and make much killing streak, and i maxed all upgrade even in 3 levels before the last level, giving me much resource to repair the NESTS.

Thanks for the review and guide! :)

Some tips about this awsome game!

AWSOME GAME!!!!! I LOVE THIS MAN! The game is so simple yet so challenging, it's like the perfect combo!

Here are a few tips:
-The fast characters can run between mobs of enemies so fast they don't get hit
-Wadolf's laser only shoots in one direction *hint hint*
-Wadolf only spawns up to 3 zombies
-You can combo him easy if the zombies are far away (easier to do with a fast character so you can run from the zombies)
-Leave all the guts on the ground until after the health mini game (unless you're about to die) and before the zombies spawn (because the zombies it them!)
-Don't expect to get it the first few times! Practice makes perfect!

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. (BTW, I can now beat Wadolf with almost full health and 9 bombs after playing for quite a while)

Meh, it's ok

There are just so many problems with this game. The cocept for it is just...AMAZING. I LOVE this idea of having a massive game where anyone can sync their own songs...which is the problem.

A lot of the songs just plain sucked because the syncing was off. Not that i blame them. It's just too freakin' HARD to sync a song. Why? Because the syncing system sucked. Bad. You have to be PERFECT at memorizing the song, then hit the keys you want to hit at the EXACT time. You mess up once by hitting the worng key, you're just like...screw this, I'm not starting over again. I dunno, maybe you could make it so that you perfectly sync one part of the song, save it, then try syncing the rest. BUT NO. You have to just try syncing the whole thing, and you can't even see your work after. I want to add a song, but I know that it's going to be barely better then the rest of the crap being submitted.

I'm sorry if it's asking for too much to have a better syncing system, but you HAVE to have a better one or else, guess what, the place is just going to be flooded with CRAP because it's too hard to sync it.

Also, when looking for a song, there are like 20 versions of it, half of them NOT complete. This is because they gave up syncing, yet SAVED it. There should at least something to show the time for each song when you select one. Maybe a ranking for the song you're specifically searching for?

Anyways, what it comes down to is good idea, bad execution.

Pretty good

But is the game supposed to run at around 35 fps? It makes the dots seem a bit laggy. I also play o2jam and the fps rate is at 60 so maybe up the frame rate. The song difficulty also wasn't high enough for me but I guess it's not easy making hard songs. The songs were pretty good too and good graphics for a game like this. Overall it was decent, but there should be a higher degree of difficulty, more songs and a higher fps rate.

Kind of dissapointing

The controls were a kinda hard to use. But, everyone seems to complain about how hard it is to kill the other ships. All you really needed to do was put points into machine gun speed to charge up your fail-safe attack, blast them and get another fail-safe, heal, blast, etc. The game got far too laggy when you had so many effects going on at the same time that it was ridiculous. You may have put together the combination of the type of games I like the most but it was a rather large let down to see how this game was so repetative after the first two levels. I mean sure they had different looks and slightly different attacks, but it turns out to be just about the same level over and over again.

Controls were uncomfortable

I hate to say it, but I agree with other people. It's hard to tell which way you're going and often I move the wrong way and I die. The transparancy option isn't so great either. The transparnt blocks were, a little TOO transparent and it was hard to tell what elevation you were on and the ones around you. I also found it most challenging toward the middle of the game simply because of the bad controls. Toward the end, it was pretty simple to stay alive. Just stock up on teleports and then teleport whenever you are in danger. But it was quite fun, after you get the hang of it. Maybe you made the controls like that to make the game more challenging? I don't know. It was a fun game, but not the best.
